To hold any boxing, wrestling, or mixed martial arts contest in the State of Arizona, you need a license from the Arizona State Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts Commission. To get this Promoters License, you must be insured, forward the Commission your combatant contracts, and hold a $20,000 Arizona Boxing Promoter Bond.
What is an Arizona Boxing Promoter Bond?
An Arizona Boxing Promoter Bond is a type of Sports Promoter Bond. It is also sometimes called an Arizona MMA Bond. It ensures that the company running a boxing or martial arts event will do so lawfully and ethically. This includes, but isn't limited to:
- Paying all combatants, referees, physicians, and other event workers per their contracts.
- Filing contestant contracts with the Commission prior to weigh-ins.
- Having proof of insurance coverage, including medical, surgical, and hospital care.
Last year, our client (a promoter) failed to provide enough cash to cover officials' fees, contestant purses, and drug tests to the Commission representative before an event. The Commission made a claim against the bond for the $2,000 they were missing. Initially, we paid the claim, but our client was then required to pay us back in full.

Why is the Boxing Promoter Bond Required?
A boxing promoter bond is in place to protect combatants, the Commission, and the public. It ensures the promoter faithfully performs all obligations, pursuant to the laws and regulations outlined in the Arizona Revised Statutes, Title 5, Chapter 2, Article 2.
If they fail to do so, the bond reimburses those affected by the promoter's misconduct.
Important: In many cases, a promoter will need both an annual bond AND an event bond. The Boxing Promoter Bond is the annual bond.
How Much Does an Arizona Boxing Promoter Bond Cost?
The cost of an Arizona Boxing Promoter Bond starts at $200. While the full bond amount you need is $20,000, you will only pay a small percentage of that amount to get bonded (1% - 3% if you have good credit).
Your bond cost (known as a bond rate or bond premium) is mainly determined by your credit score. However, business experience, past bonds, and financials may also be considered in some situations.
