Arizona private investigators need to be bonded in order to become licensed. Specifically, they need a $2,500 surety bond known as an Arizona Private Investigator Bond.
- This requirement is outlined in the Arizona Revised Statutes 32-2423 and enforced by the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety.
What is an Arizona Private Investigator Bond?
An Arizona Private Investigator Bond holds the bonded investigator financially liable if they conduct business unlawfully. This bond reimburses any person harmed by the acts of the private investigator, the private investigator's agency, or their employees.
Every Arizona Private Investigator Bond is a contract between three parties:
- Principal – the investigator that needs to get bonded and licensed.
- Obligee - the organization demanding the bond (The State of Arizona Department of Public Safety).
- Surety - the company issuing and financially backing the bond (ex. Lance Surety Bonds). The surety initially pays the claimant if a valid claim is made against the bond. However, the private investigator must then pay them back in full.
In short, this surety bond is in place to protect the financial well-being of the general public and anyone who uses the private investigator's services.
Who Needs an Arizona Private Investigator Bond?
All Arizona Private Investigators applying for an original or renewal agency license need a Private Investigator Bond. This license issued by the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety is necessary for anyone conducting private investigations in Arizona.
How Much Does an Arizona Private Investigator Bond Cost?
An Arizona Private Investigator Bond costs as little as $88. While the full bond amount you need is $2,500, you only pay a small flat rate to get bonded.
The amount you pay to get bonded is known as a bond rate or bond premium. Your bond rate can often be broken into monthly payments if required.
Denis contacted us to inquire about the Private Investigator Bond. He didn't have $2,500 and wondered if we offered monthly installments. He was ecstatic when we told him the bond would only cost him $88.
People commonly think they must pay the full bond amount (penal sum). But your bond costs only a small fraction of the penal sum.
